Al fin llegaron las nominaciones a los premios Oscar, y por lo general, eso marca el inicio de una larga temporada de premios. Pero este año las nominaciones llegan casi dos meses antes de la ceremonia, programada para el 15 de marzo. Para el género que nos interesa aquí, io9 elige como mejor peli a Sinners, que se lleva 16 nominaciones – es la película con más nominaciones en la historia de los Oscar – como Mejor película, Mejor director (Ryan Coogler), Mejor actor (Michael B. Jordan) y Mejores actores de reparto (Wubmi Mosaku y Delroy Lindo). Frankenstein de Guillermo del Toro se lleva 15 nominaciones, incluyendo la de mejor película, en tanto que Bugonia tiene 10 nominaciones, con un guiño como Mejor película también.
Hay otras importantes películas que podrían llevarse estatuillas de oro en marzo, como KPop Demon Hunters, nominada como Mejor Animación y Mejor canción, y Avatar: fuego y cenizas, nominada por Mejores efectos visuales y Mejor Diseño de Vestuario.
